The Prime Minister and the Leader of the UNP – one and the same – have a wonderful way with words and committees.
Responding to growing concerns about Ravi Karunanayake’s role in the scandal the United National Party decided to look into it themselves. The Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed his trusted legal advisor Thilak Marapona to do so.
Unfrtunately the man appointed to look into the matter has himself been the subject of some controversy and stepped down as the Minister of Justice in this government.
He was later brought back in and serves as the Foreign Minister today.
To give Marapona the task of looking into Ravi smacks of high level patronage from the Leader himself. The added conflict is that a sibling Gamini has represented the Aloysious connected business Perpetual Treasuries.
It simply does not add up that one person who had to resign over one scandal should be looking into another person’s activities in yet another scandal. Unless of course it is the Leader’s methodology of reinstating Ravi Karunanayake.
