Cuba’s new leader

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel will be the first person without the name Castro to run Cuba since the 1959 revolution.

President Díaz-Canel has been named the first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) on Monday (19).

As he assumed his new role, he told the closing meeting of the 8th congress of the PCC that he would remain in close contact with Raúl Castro, continuing to discuss all strategic decisions.

Mr Díaz-Canel now holds the two most important positions in Cuba.
