‘Defeated wicked force has been allowed to raise its ugly head again’ – JVP

Sri Lanka’s Marxist party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says the people have rejected the Yahapalana unity government of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the election has allowed the “defeated wicked force to raise its ugly head again.”

The leader of the JVP Anura Dissanayake speaking at a press conference held at the head office of the JVP on Sunday said the result of the election clearly indicates people’s opposition to the government’s neglect of the mandate it received at the 8th January 2015 election. The election results show the reaction of the people for the failure of the government to fulfil their aspirations, he said.

“Also, the election has allowed the wicked force that misappropriated people’s assets and funds, carried out undemocratic moves against the people, acted against the judiciary, bombed media institutions, carried out any low act to fulfill its needs and was defeated at the general election on 8th January 2015 to raise its ugly head,” MP Dissanayake said.

The JVP leader said the election was held when there was a massive anti-government feeling in the country due to its failure to provide relief to the people economically and to take action against the fraud and corruptions.

The JVP leader said with the political background the party expected a certain result but they have not received the expected results. However, compared to 2011 LG elections, there representation has increased, he said.

Dissanayake said whenever there is an issue in the country, whether it’s related to farmers, workers, youths or the general public the political party they turn to is the JVP despite the number of seats they have in the councils and the party will be ready to help them.

“As such, we will be prepared when people turn to us for solutions for their issues when those who are in power fail them. We will build the strongest mass organization to confront the issues when the authorities carry out moves against masses and their organizations.”
