Former Deputy Minister Shantha Premaratne sentenced to 4 years in prison for bribery

A Sri Lankan court yesterday found a former deputy minister is guilty of receiving bribe and sentenced him to four years rigorous imprisonment.

Colombo High Court Judge Piyasena Ranasinghe sentenced the former Deputy Minister Shantha Premaratne, who was found guilty of accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from a woman after promising to get her a job in the Ceylon Electricity Board in 2007.

In addition the judge ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000 rupees.

The Bribery Commission has filed the case against him.
