A Sri Lankan court Wednesday remanded a former intelligence officer of the Sri Lanka Navy who was arrested Tuesday for the abduction and disappearance of 11 youths in Colombo in the year 2008/2009.
Fort Magistrate Miss Lanka Jayaratne remanded the former navy intelligence officer until 25th January when he was produced before the court Wednesday.
State TV Rupavahini reported that a witness who has given a statement to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has stated that the suspect was seen taking out in a vehicle what appears to be dead bodies wrapped in black polythene bags out of a navy camp called ‘Gun site’ in Trincomalee.
Fort Magistrate Miss Lanka Jayaratne also issued a red notice to arrest another suspect of this case, former Navy Lieutenant Commander Prasad Chandana Hettiarachchi, who is currently absconding.
Former Naval Media Spokesperson Commodore DKP Dassanayake and five others including three naval officers were arrested last year in connection with the abduction of 11 youths including six international school students and five university students in 2008 and 2009. Subsequent to their arrest, the suspects were remanded. They were granted bail on 9th January this year and released pending the case.
