Japan and France report cases of coronavirus variant found in UK

Five cases of the new coronavirus variant spreading fast across the UK have been found in Japan, and one case has been confirmed in France.

Japan has avoided the huge infection numbers but cases are rising sharply and daily numbers passed 3,000 for the first time this month.

The 5 people who were infected with the highly transmissible Covid-19 variant have been quarantined, Japanese Media reported. The 5 infected had  recently arrived from UK.

France’s first case of the variant is a Frenchman in the town of Tours, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, who had arrived from London on the 19.

Russia has become the latest country to ban flights from the UK.
