Leopard caught in snare at Bopaththalawa Farm succumbs to injuries

A leopard recently found trapped in a snare at the Bopaththalawa Farm died while receiving treatment at the Randenigala Veterinary Hospital, officials reported.

Veterinary Director of the Department of Wildlife Tharaka Prasad said the Leopard had died due to the severe injuries suffered to its abdomen.

On March 24, the leopard was found trapped in a snare on top of the official quarters in the eastern region of the Bopaththalawa Farm.

Children who saw the trapped leopard had alerted locals.

Locals allege that due to a considerable number of leopards roaming the jungles in the area certain groups set up snares in the area to poach wild animals.
