Minister instructs to grant the unjustly expelled Kekirawa student a suitable national school

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has instructed the education officials to take measures to provide the female student, who was unjustly expelled from school on a false allegation of being pregnant, admission to a suitable national school.

The grade 10 student of the Madatugama Rewatha Vidyalaya, in Kekirawa education zone was expelled from the school by the Principal falsely accusing the girl is pregnant for vomiting at a morning assembly.

Medical tests conducted subsequently has confirmed that the student was neither molested nor had any sexual activity and not pregnant.

The Ministry has taken measures to interdict the Principal who expelled the student.

The Minister has directed the officials to find a suitable national school for the girl with the consent of the student and her parents.

Due to the extreme poverty of the family, the Minister has suggested finding a school with hostel facilities to minimize the problems faced by the child due to economic hardships.

Meanwhile, the Human Right Commission has launched an investigation into the incident and the teachers and the principal involved in the injustice have been summoned for a hearing Monday,

The National Child Protection Authority has also commenced a special police investigation into the expulsion.
