No egg imports to Sri Lanka from Monday as local production sufficient

The Department of Animal Production and Health has informed not to import eggs to Sri Lanka as there is sufficient local production.

Director General of the Department of Animal Production and Health Dr. Nihal Wedasinghe has informed the Minister of Rural Economy, P. Harrison, that there is no need for importation of eggs since the local production of eggs is exceeding the requirement.

The Director General also states that measures have been taken to inform the Ports and Customs on the matter.

The Minister has asked not to permit any institution to import eggs as the egg production is sufficient even for the upcoming festival season.
