UPFA General Secretary, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says there will not be a so-called throne speech when parliament convenes on May 8th.
Refuting certain media reports of moves to defeat the President’s throne speech in the House on the 8th, Amaraweera said President Maithripala Sirisena will only present the government policy and plans.
He noted that there will not be any vote taken on the speech.
Meanwhile, Co-cabinet Spokesman, Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has also said the President will table in the House the government policy for the next two years.
After Sri Lanka became a republic in 1972, there is no queen or a throne speech, the Minister has added.
