Presidential Commission of Inquiry to hand over bond scam report within 48 hours

The report compiled by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Issuance of Treasury Bonds is due to be handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena within the next 48 hours.

According to the Secretary to the Commission, Sumathipala Udugamasuriya, the process of compiling the report is at its final stage.

Seventy one people have provided evidence before the Presidential Commission that was appointed on January 27 this year, with the participation of Retired Supreme Court Judge K.T. Chithrasiri.

The Commission was appointed to investigate the Issuance of Treasury Bonds from February 1, 2015 until March 31, 2016.

The Commission was extended four times in office.

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry was expected to end on 27th of April 2017 but was extended for the first time by three months, until July 25, 2017.

Subsequently, it was extended until October 27, from then till December, 8.

Finally it was then postponed to December 31, thereby extending its tenure by another 23 more days.
