The Railway Department has deployed 24 special trains for the convenience of the travelers heading homes in the village for the upcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year and returning to Colombo after the festive season, Railway Additional General Manager (Operations) Wijaya Samarasinghe said.
The special trains have been running from Saturday (07), he said. This service is in addition to the regular train services from Fort and Maradana to outer destinations.
Accordingly a train will leave Colombo Fort at 7.20 pm to Bandarawela while from April 12 a train will operate between Colombo Fort and Jaffna. The train from Bandarawela will leave at 8.07 am to Colombo and on 15th April a train will leave Jaffna at 8 am for Colombo.
In addition, trains will operate to Maho Junction at 1.05 pm from Colombo and from Maho Junction at 5.10 pm to Colombo.
Special trains will operate between Galle and Colombo. Trains will leave from Colombo to Galle at 9.20 am and 11.50 am and will return to Colombo from Galle at 1.15 pm and 5.55 pm. A train to Matara will leave Colombo at 2.55 pm while a train service will be operational between Kalutara South and Veyangoda.
In addition, a large number of trains will run to Galle, Matara, Kalutara South and Veyangoda on April 12 and trains will be deployed as per the requirement of the passengers Mr. Samarasinghe said.
In addition, the National Transport Commission and the Western Provincial Council have also deployed additional buses and the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has also deployed additional buses.
The Commission requested the passengers to report to the hotline 1955 if they have been overcharged.
