The adoption of the proposal aimed at resolving the salary issue for university non-academic employees has encountered further delays.
The proposal, initially presented by Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha, is currently under review.
The Ministry of Education has decided to seek approval from the Ministry of Finance regarding the proposal’s content. Once this approval is obtained, the proposal will be resubmitted to the Cabinet for consideration.
Meanwhile, the strike by university non-academic staff continues for the 13th consecutive day.
These employees are protesting a 15 percent reduction in their salaries and the lack of an increase in their monthly allowances.
As a result of the strike, all 17 government universities and higher education institutions are experiencing disruptions in their activities.
Dhammika S. Priyantha, President of the Joint Committee of University Unions, emphasized that the strike has brought studies, weekend courses, and examinations to a complete standstill.
