- Former head of of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka has forewarned of a potential serious blow to democracy.
Mr Saliya Pieris has highlighted that any position that the government makes on rejecting the Supreme Court order on appointment of the Inspector General of Police will be “a serious blow to the rule of law and democracy” Mr Pieris says such a move “will take Sri Lanka further on the path towards a dictatorship”
Mr Saliya Pieris additionally points out that if the IGP were to continue he opens himself up to be charged personally for contempt of Court.
