Sri Lanka tourist arrivals up by 19.3 percent in February 2018

Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals rose 19.3 percent in February this year compared to the same period last year, the data released today by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) showed.

The month recorded 235,618 tourists arriving in the country compared to the 197,517 arrived in February 2017.

In the first two months of this year 474,542 tourists visited the island compared to the 416,877 tourists visited in February 2017, recording an overall increase of 13.8 percent.

China, India, United Kingdom, Germany and France were Sri Lanka’s top five international tourist generating markets in the month of February this year. China was the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 15 percent of the total traffic received in February 2018. India accounted for 14 percent of the total traffic, while UK, Germany and France accounted for 10 percent, 7 percent and 7 percent respectively.

Europe continued to be the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 52 percent of the total traffic received in February 2018. Asia and Pacific accounted for 41 percent of the total traffic, America 5 percent, Middle East 2 percent and Africa 0.49 percent.
