Sri Lanka has dropped nine places in the Global Gender Gap Index in comparison to last year. Sri Lanka is ranked 109 out of 144 countries according to the latest report.
The Global Gender Gap report benchmarks 144 countries on their progress towards gender parity, and is compiled by the World Economic Forum.
The main areas focused were the contribution towards economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment.
Sri Lanka was ranked among the top ranked countries in the sub categories of Health and Survival.
Furthermore, Sri Lanka was ranked 123th in terms of the contribution towards Economic Participation and Opportunity and 86th in Educational Attainment.
Sri Lanka was ranked 65th in the Political Empowerment Index.
Iceland was ranked number one in the Gender Index, while Norway and Finland were ranked second and third.
