Light Rail Transit System in Sri Lankan capital Colombo to be operational by 2025

The government of Sri Lanka is planning to establish a Light Rail Transit System (LRT) in capital Colombo that will be operational by 2025. The Government is taking measures to implement a project on Light Rail Transit System (LRT) to establish an efficient and effective passenger transport system in the Colombo Megapolis area, a statement on recent cabinet decisions said. US$ 100m project to solve Colombo’s garbage issue

By Damith Wickremasekara The Megapolis and Western Development Ministry will seek cabinet approval next week to award a US$ 100 million (Rs 15 billion) contract for a major solid waste management system at Aruwakkalu in Puttalam as a solution to Colombo’s chronic garbage disposal problem. The project is being introduced as a solution to the waste disposal issues mainly in the Western Province.
