Karu urges public sector to “stop bleeding”

By Shannon Jayawardena Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya yesterday urged the public sector and state-owned business enterprises to improve good governance in order to ensure that the economy and society stopped “bleeding” in terms of losses and corruption. “Public enterprises play a vital role in the public delivery system and are major contributors to the national economy. Therefore I appeal to public enterprises to stop the bleeding and improve the quality of life of people,” Jayasuriya said at the launch of the handbook on ‘Good Governance for Chairmen and Board of Directors of Public Enterprises’. Sri Lanka state doctors' union, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA), who launched an island wide token strike this morning, has met with the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne to discuss solutions to their demands. CA Sri Lanka, ICCSL promote accounting as preferred career choice

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) recently partnered with the International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka (ICCSL) to jointly promote accounting as the preferred career choice among the students' population and the business community in the country, a press release stated. The Memorandum of Agreement was signed by CA Sri Lanka President Lasantha Wickremasinghe and ICCSL Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody, the release added. The agreement between CA Sri Lanka and ICCSL will pave the way to increase the number of qualified accounting professionals across the country.
