JO members reject the Group of 16 MPs

Members of the joint opposition (JO) have expressed their displeasure at the attempt by 16 SLFP MPs, who have announced their decision to sit in the opposition in parliament, to join the JO. Several JO MPs have even taken the issue with the seniors of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. JO MP Johnston Fernando has objected to the attempt by MP Dayasiri Jayasekera to join the JO. Fernando has said that Jayasekera is a time servant who had no principles and would betray any one since his main aim power. President’s former secretary to be summoned as witness in Bribery Commission case

An order to summon the president’s former secretary, P.B. Abeykoon, was given to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption by the Colombo Chief Magistrate. The order was made as the former secretary to the president is a witness in a case filed against MP Johnston Fernando. This move is due to the Assets Declaration of Members of Parliament issued by P.B. Abeykoon during his tenure of office as the president’s secretary. The document was presented before court as evidence to the case. Asset declarations of parliamentarians available at the Presidential Secretariat are to be produced before court on an order made by Colombo Chief Magistrate, Lal Ranasinghe Bandara.
