Investigations completed against astrologer who predicted Sri Lankan President’s death

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Sri Lanka Police today informed the Colombo Magistrate Court that measures have been taken to obtain the advice of the Attorney General for inquiries against the astrologer Vijitha Rohana Wijayamuni who claimed that President Maithripala Sirisena will die. When the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara today, the CID informed the Court that the investigations had been completed. Army officer remanded for spreading hate speech on Facebook

A Sri Lankan court has remanded an Army officer, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for allegedly using his Facebook account to spread hate speech. The CID informed Court that the suspect, a resident of Gampaha district, had shared hate speech through his Facebook page in a manner detrimental to the peace and harmony among religious and ethnic communities. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police today informed the court that it has sought the advice of Attorney General on the threatening remarks made by the former UPFA Southern Provincial Council Minister D. V. Upul against the officers of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID). The former councilor, addressing a public gathering in Hambanthota on May 31, 2015, had allegedly threatened to stone to death the officers attached to the FCID once Mahinda Rajapaksa returned to power as the Prime Minister.
