Eighteen hour water- cut to commence shortly

The Water Supply and Drainage Board says, water supply to several areas in Colombo including Dehiwala and Mount Lavinia will be temporarily suspended from 8 a.m. Saturday till 2 a.m. tomorrow, for a period of 18 hours. The water supply will be suspended to areas of Kotte, Kaduwela, Maharagama, Boralesgamuwa, Kolonnawa, Kotikawatta, Mulleriyawa, Ratmalana and Soysapura as a result of repair activities at the Ambathale water purifier. Meanwhile, water supply to areas of Kottawa, Pannipitiya, Depanama and Rukmale will be temporarily suspended from 6 p.m. tomorrow till 3 a.m. the next day, due to repair activities at the Pannipitiya water purifier.

Mulleriyawa police officer commits suicide

A sub inspector at the Mulleriyawa Police has committed suicide by shooting himself. According to the police, the sub inspector committed suicide early this morning inside his official house.He is a 57 year old resident of Ingiriya. “He has shot himself using his own duty firearm,” said the Police Media Unit.

Foundation laid for National Stroke Center to be established in Colombo East hospital

A National Stroke Center for the multidisciplinary care of stroke patients in Sri Lanka is to be set up at the Colombo East Hospital in Mulleriyawa. The Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has recently laid foundation stone to establish the National Stroke Center and the Accident and Emergency Care center at the Colombo East Hospital in Mulleriyawa recently. Expressing his views at the event, Minister Senaratne said non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the main threat to health and accidents are one of the reasons for the NCDs. He added that about 4,000 people die in a year from accidents and many more people are affected.
