Parinda Ranasinghe appointed new Attorney General

Colombo, July 12 (PMD) - President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed K.A. Parinda Ranasinghe as Sri Lanka’s new Attorney General. According to President's Media Division, the appointment was made under Article 61E (b) of the Sri Lankan Constitution at the Presidential Secretariat earlier today, following Ranasinghe's recent role as Acting Attorney General. Parinda Ranasinghe, who previously served as Senior Additional Solicitor General, has been confirmed as the country’s Attorney General. His appointment received unanimous approval from the Constitutional Council during their session yesterday.

03 Indian trawlers with 13 fishermen seized for poaching in Sri Lankan waters

The Sri Lanka Navy has seized 03 Indian trawlers and apprehended 13 Indian fishermen for poaching in Sri Lankan waters off Delft Island in Jaffna today. According to the Navy, the arrest was made during a special operation conducted together with the Coast Guard to deter Indian trawlers poaching in Sri Lankan waters. The Sri Lankan Rupee has appreciated further against the US Dollar today (July 11), compared to Wednesday, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Accordingly, the buying rate of the US Dollar has dropped from Rs. 299.26 to Rs. 299.04, while the selling rate has also reduced from Rs. 308.50 to Rs. 308.34.
