‘Thambapavani’ wind power plant joins national grid

Located in Mannar ‘Thambapavani’ is the largest wind power plant complex in the country.

The power plant was added to the National Grid on Tuesday (08) during an event graced by the Prime Minister, making it a historic milestone to the country.

It is an eco-friendly power plant.

It is possible to reduce the consumption of around 2000 litres of diesel fuel within the next 20 years, it added.

It also prevents the release of 5.7 million metric tons of carbon into the environment.

The wind power plant can generate electricity for a cost as little as Rs 8 per unit, said Velu Chandrasekaran, the Environment and Social Security Officer of the project.
