A school principal in the Urubokka area in Matara has been arrested in connection to an alleged assault on a student.
The principal had allegedly assaulted the grade 11 student on Thursday, because his hairstyle violated school rules.The student in question began vomiting and experiencing headaches after the principal purportedly assaulted him.
The student was admitted to the Heegoda hospital. The victim’s father lodged a complaint with the Urubokka Police and the police took steps to arrest the principal yesterday.
According to police, complaints had been lodged against the principal in question, on a number of other occasions as well. Incidentally a case is being heard against him in the Morawaka Court in relation to a similar incident.
The principal was remanded till November 7, after he was produced before the Morawaka Magistrate.
