The World Tuberculosis Day falls on 24th March and this year it will be marked under the theme “Wanted: Leaders for a TB Free World – You Can Make History. End TB.”
In Sri Lanka, several programs have been arranged in parallel with the World TB Day celebration and the day’s main event will be held at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka on 23rd Friday. In addition, an awareness program will be held for the community leaders in Colombo Municipal Council area on the same day and similar programs will be held island-wide in district level.
According to the reports, nearly 2-3 million deaths are reported each year in the world due to TB and in Sri Lanka, 648 deaths were reported due to the disease in 2016.
