6.5 magnitude earth near Andaman Islands; No tsunami threat to Sri Lanka at present

An earthquake of 6.5 magnitude was reported near Andaman and Nicoba islands.

The National Tsunami Early Warning Centre said the earthquake had occurred 1300km off Batticaloa in the Indian Ocean.

 

 

Issuing another statement the National Tsunami Early Warning Center informed that there is no tsunami threat to the country at present.

The coastal areas of Sri Lanka have been declared safe.

The Centre further said the latest information in this regard will be publicized through media to the public as and when it becomes available.
