Govt. decides on sticking by relevant election periods

The government has directed attention to holding elections during the timeframes allocated for holding elections.

Minister Mano Ganesan said the decision was unanimously consented to, during a discussion at the Temple Trees last evening under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Minister said future plans of the government, challenges and obstacles were discussed while several important decisions were reached during the meeting.

Minister Ganesan noted a common stance was reached that the General and Presidential Elections should be held during the same timeframe as there is no need to hold elections before this period.

Therefore he claimed that the government will instead focus on future plans.

Minister Mano Ganesan is of the view that the Provincial Council Election should be held under the old electoral system.

He said in the event that the Election is held under the new electoral system, the conduct of the election will be delayed.
