Sri Lankan President emphasizes building a better society & country for young generation

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena emphasized that everyone should fulfill their respective duties collectively to build a better society and a country for the young generation.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the ‘Jathika Yowun Puraya 2018’ held at the Livestock Development Centre in Nikaweratiya, Saturday (March 31), the President said that developed countries in the world have achieved their progress by everyone working towards a common goal for the benefit of the country.

Therefore, the President emphasized the importance of working on a common agenda keeping aside personal agendas by all the political leaders as well as all the political organizations, and further said that collective efforts would be a great strength to continue as a nation.

President Sirisena further stressed that the government is fully committed to fulfill the aspirations of the youth in the country.

The ‘Jathika Yowun Puraya’ organized annually by the National Youth Services Council and the Federation of National Youth Societies was commenced on Wednesday centering the Kurunegala district.

Nearly 7000 youth from all over the country participated in the camp along with the youths from foreign countries.

This camp holds youth camps and youth gatherings providing a platform to conduct Leadership workshops on developing personalities of the youth. Under the program, youths from Sri Lanka were given the opportunity to get an understanding on national reconciliation and solidarity and to exchange experiences with foreign counterparts in the field of youth development. It provides a platform for the youth to engage in various activities based on coordination and reconciliation as well as to create a dialogue among the young generation on national development.

The Kurunegala District Youth Club won the award for the best creative and best club award of the Jathika Yowun Puraya 2018 receiving 160 marks and the award was presented to them by the President.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Ministers and MPs including Ministers S.B. Dissanayake, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Sagala Ratnayake, Sarath Fonseka, Deputy Minister Indika Bandaranayake, Shantha Bandara, North Western Province Chief Minister Dharmasiri Dassanayake, Chairman/Director General of the National Youth Services Council Attorney at Law Erandika Welianga, IGP Pujitha Jayasundara, Public Officials and others were present at the event.
