Top official at Examinations Department sacked for neglect of duties

A top official of the Sri Lanka Department of Examinations under the Ministry of Education has been sacked with immediate effect.

The Deputy Commissioner of Examinations, who served as the Head of the Confidential and Institutional Examination Division has been interdicted with effect from today over allegations of neglect of duties and misconduct, the Education Ministry said.

Accordingly, Education Secretary Sunil Hettiarachchi has issued the relevant letter of interdiction on the approval of the Education Service Committee of the Public Service Commission.

The Examination Department on the directive of Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, has launched an investigation into the examinations held earlier, the marking of papers, the preparation of question papers, the appointment of the examination board and safeguarding the privacy related to the examinations, the Ministry said in a statement.
