The Minister of Law and Order Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that a strong program has been prepared to curb the underworld and it has already been implemented successfully.
Participating in the cabinet media briefing on Wednesday, Minister Madduma Bandara said that a special program has been implemented under the Special Task Force (STF) and it will be able to control the underworld immediately
Responding to a question raised by a journalist regarding the killings and operations by an underworld leader identified as Makandure Madush from a foreign country, the Minister said with today’s modern technology, sophisticated phones and other communication methods, it is able to carry out such operations from a foreign soil.
The Minister further said that the confrontations of underworld gangs with other rival underworld gangs are now rampant, and because of the confidential nature, the measures used for controlling these activities cannot be revealed to the media.
Speaking on the matter, co-cabinet spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne pointed out that the underworld gangs are engaged in various crimes even from the Main Welikada Prison and it is no surprise they operate from a foreign country.
“The media know what happened to those who were arrested during the past government. We cannot do that. If so, the media will question us. Therefore, a systematic program is needed to suppress the underworld,” Minister Senaratne said.
