Three (03) key Bills have been tabled in Parliament today.
The Special Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill and the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill were presented to Parliament.
The two Bills were tabled by Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa this morning.
The Special GST Bill is presented to provide for the imposition of a special goods and services tax, in lieu of the sums chargeable on specified goods and services by way of tax, duty, levy, or any other charge imposed by law; to promote self-compliance in the payment of taxes in order to ensure greater efficiency in relation to the collection and administration or such taxes and related matters.
Meanwhile, the Personal Data Protection Bill was also presented in Parliament today.
The bill provides for the regulation of the processing of personal data; to identify and strengthen the rights of data subjects in relation to the protection of personal data; to provide for the designation of the Data Protection Authority; and related matters.
The second reading of the Special GST Bill and the Personal Data Protection Bill will take place tomorrow (21).
