Ranil Wickremesinghe says that the unity government will continue under the leadership of the President Maithripala Sirisena until 2020 without any problems.
The Prime Minister also said at a United National Party (UNP) rally held in Kaduruwela, Polonnaruwa that the government will take on the responsibility of creating a better country for the people by 2020.
The public rally was organized on behalf of the candidate’s contesting the Polonnaruwa district from the UNP to ensure their victory at the upcoming local government elections on February 10th. An extremely large crowd was present at the rally, the state TV reported.
Addressing the rally, the Prime Minister pointed out that the majority of the seats in the parliament is with the United National Front, of which, the UNP is the main party. They will have a majority in parliament for the government they will establish, he said.
The Premier asserted that this government will continue until 2020 and it cannot be changed. He further said that the party has decided to take this government forward with unity.
The Premier said that after the election, they will create that unity and work together again. He said that all of them have decided that this government will continue under the President Sirisena.
“At Pradeshiya Sabha elections we will contest separately but after that this government will continue to exist. That is why I want to make this particular statement,” he said.
“We will be strengthened further by 2020. We will create a far better country,” the Prime Minister said.
The Premier requested the people to give their mandate for the forthcoming five-years as well.
Meanwhile another rally was held yesterday evening in Kegalle under the patronage of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe to ensure the victory of the UNP candidates contesting the local government elections in Kegalle district. The rally was organized by the General Secretary of UNP, Minister Kabir Hashim.
Addressing the crowd, the Premier said that a new act will be brought in order to control debt and responsibility.
“Media is always accusing the UNP. I am not surprised if media reports tomorrow that there are only 1500 people in this rally in Kegalle. The Media will not show this crowd because they are scared. We have the freedom and we have given the freedom,” the Premier said.
He said the government has deactivated the land mine which is debt, and it is gradually being brought under control.
The premier pointed out that this year the highest exports at $ 15 billion was achieved. But he said that he is not satisfied with that. He added that $ 30 billion of exports is required to solve the debt problems.
The Premier stressed that if they are working in this government in this fashion for development they need the support of the villages as well.
“We are contesting these elections with plans in our possession. The opposition have no plans. Therefore think about development in your area and vote for the United National Party,” the Premier said.
