The Locomotive Operating Engineers and Drivers’ Union initiated the unannounced strike from Wednesday 3 p.m. demanding to rectify their salary anomalies. Association of Railway Guards has also extended its support to the strike.
Meanwhile, a tense situation arose at the Colombo Fort Station as the inconvenienced commuters protested the sudden strike commenced by the railway trade unions without a prior warning.

The Inter Provincial Private Bus Association has decided to launch a strike action from midnight on August 12 as the discussions held with authorities regarding their demands were unsuccessful.
