CB criticizes secret ballot to elect Deputy Speaker
Joint opposition MP C.B. Ratnayake has yesterday criticized the secret ballot that was held in parliament to elect the Deputy Speaker, claiming it could not be considered a secret ballot since the respective MP’s signature was asked to be placed on the ballot paper.
Ratnayake told a news conference yesterday that it was never seen in the history of parliament.
He explained that once the MP places his signature on the ballot paper where he has marked his preference, it could not be considered a secret ballot.
“These are the actions of a government that assumed office under the guise of defending democracy,” Ratnayake said.
