Sri Lanka election watchdog, Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) says the allegation that the number of local council members has increased due to female representation is unacceptable. Executive Director of the Keerthi Tennakoon speaking to local media stated that this situation has arisen due to the arbitrary changes made in the ratio of members selected under the proportional and divisional election system based on political needs. Sri Lanka election monitor Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) calls on the government to hold the Provincial Council Elections in April this year. Commission records 122 complaints over upcoming local govt. elections

The National Election Commission has received 122 complaints regarding the Local Government election. The police received 12 complaints yesterday. The highest number of complaints recorded is 17, reported from the Gampaha district. The Elections Commission said that 15 complaints have been received from the Colombo District. Furthermore, the Commission stated that the highest number of complaints were regarding the distribution of goods, cut-outs and banners. The Commission stated that necessary action has been taken with the support of the police.
