President presents housing deeds to Ranaviru Real Star winners

Presentation of new housing ownership deeds to the 35 selected candidates for the final round of Ranaviru Real Star was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at Madurawala Prabudhdhagma Horana Ranaviru village today(13). The award winning ceremony was held to present awards for the winners of the 5th edition of Ranaviru Real Star which is held under five stages. President offered new houses for the 35 finalists of the competition. Thus soldier Sampath Sri Palansooriya who won the first place in the competition was presented the ownership of the newly built two floor house worth Rs.20 million by the President. G.C.E. A/L exam candidates to be given opportunities in nursing profession

Government has focused attention towards recruitment of candidates who pass the GCE Advanced Level Examinations, in any stream, to Nursing. According to the Health Ministry, candidates will be recruited from the Northern and Eastern provinces. Current shortage of nursing staff has been disrupting hospital activities. The Ministry noted that the shortage of nursing staff is prevalent in the Colombo district as well and that nurses are less willing to work in the Northern and Eastern provinces and in the Colombo district.

Strict action against candidates violating exam regulations

Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has instructed the Commissioner General of Examinations and the Police to take stern action against examination candidates who violate the rules and regulations of the examinations. The law will be enforced not only under examination regulations but also through an investigation carried out by the CID. A student at the Walisingha Harischandra College in Anuradhapura has been alleged of using a mobile phone to cheat in the examination.
