New houses under construction for 67 families affected by landslides in Kalutara
New houses are being constructed for 67 families affected by landslides in Palinda Nuwara area in Kalutara district, according to the Ministry of Disaster Management.
Heavy rains as a result of the south-west monsoon activated from 24 May 2017 brought landslides and flooding in the district causing heavy damage to houses and roads in the area.
The new houses are being built in the Palinda Nuwara Malwatte, Ambegoda and Morapitiya areas to replace the damaged houses.
The government has provided a land plot of 12.5 perches. Under the project, the houses will be built in four stages at a cost of Rs 1.2 million each. Electricity, water, roads and all other infrastructure facilities will be included in the project. The government has allocated Rs. 310 million for the project.
