Govt did not sell off state property – Daya Gamage

Despite the allegations directed by the opposition, the government has not sold off any state property, says Social Welfare and Primary Industries Minister Daya Gamage. He stated this addressing an event held in Homagama yesterday (04). The incumbent government has retrieved the valuable lands that had been given to foreign countries by the previous government, according to the Minister. Hambantota Port and Mattala Airport have been built on loan agreements by the previous government, hence ownership of these properties would be taken over by foreign countries if the loans could not be paid off, the Minister further said.

At a special ceremony held on Sunday, foundation stone was laid to start the construction work for development of Most Ven Maduluwave Sobitha Thero Village (Elapathagama) in Anuradhapura District with Indian assistance. Officials instructed to promptly provide information of people affected by adverse weather

Minister of Social Welfare and Primary Industries Daya Gamage has instructed the relevant officials to promptly provide information on people affected by adverse weather, flood victims and disabled persons to expedite relief efforts. Over 23,000 families in 16 districts have been affected by the sudden floods resulted from the torrential rains. Nearly 1500 people in Ratnapura, Kalutara and Nuwara Eliya districts have been evacuated and sheltered in 30 camps while a large number of houses have been partly damaged due to landslides in the Badulla District. Social Welfare and Primary Affairs Minister Daya Gamage has advised the Secretary of the Ministry to obtain the reports on the affected people from the Social Services Officers in all relevant Divisional Secretariats.

Sri Lankan President arrives in Seoul for state visit

Maithripala Sirisena arrived at the Incheon International Airport in Seoul on Tuesday commencing a three-day state visit to South Korea on the invitation of President Moon Jae-in. He was received by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cho Hyun, Chief of National Security, Chung Eyi-yong and other high dignitaries.
