Price formula for fuel in par with oil prices in World Market

Sri Lanka's Treasury has decided to devise a special price formula to the fuel prices in par with the oil prices of World Market as the government is heavily burdened with the rising cost of importing fuel. The price formula will be simplified with the aim of providing relief to the common masses. The Treasury has taken this decision due to the oil price increase in the World Market. The Ministry of Petroleum Resources is expected to prepare the price formula within the next 2 weeks. Once the price formula is devised, it will be submitted to the cabinet for approval. State-owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation reportedly incurs a massive loss of Rs. 38 million per day due to the recent price hike by its competitor Lanka IOC.

Petroleum Ministry to probe incidents involving substandard fuel

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources says that steps have been taken to investigate the filling stations that issue substandard fuel. Secretary Upali Maarasinghe said that officers have been appointed at the ministry level. He also stated that the officers are working to rectify the shortcomings that exist in the filling stations. Meanwhile, steps have been taken to investigate the recent oil crisis which was reported. Secretary Upali Marasinghe said that investigations are being carried out about some  filling stations that were reportedly issuing substandard fuel in the recent past.

New hotline for queries over petroleum issues

Petroleum authorities have responded to rumours circulating over a shortage of fuel in the country. According to the Secretary to the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, there is no fuel crisis in the country, and the rumours that are being spread over shortages are false. In view of the prevailing situation, customers have been asked to contact the Ministry of Petroleum Resources over any doubts that may arise on the issue. A new hotline has been initiated to answer customer queries and handle complaints. Customers have been asked by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to contact them via 011 5 455130.

Lady Neveska arrives – authorities await petrol sample report

Secretary to the Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development says that one hour is required to release the report on the petrol sample from the 40,000 metric tonnes of petrol which was brought to the country aboard Neveska Vessel, last night. Police protection has been sought by the ministry in order to ensure effective petrol distrbution. The distribution of petrol will begin after obtaining a report on the sample. According to the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the distribution of fuel will commence at 2 p.m. today.
