Clinical waste of India ends up on Puttalam coast

Marine Environment Protection Authority says that a proper program will be implemented to remove the clinical waste that has been washed up on to the Puttalam coastal area. General Manger of the Authority Teney Pradeep Kumara says that washed up clinical waste has been collecting in several areas of the Puttalam coast. According to the Marine Environment Protection Authority, those clinical waste have been identified as clinical waste from India, disposed to the sea in a hazardous manner. Public should not intervene to remove these waste and immediate action has been taken to properly dispose these washed up clinical waste, said Kumara.

A lasting Vesak Pandal made of INSEE Sanstha Cement!

A large number of Vesak sightseers thronged Ranmuthugala, Kadawatha this year witnessed a unique Vesak pandal.  It was illuminated with the customary flickering coloured lights, but what was most unusual was that perhaps for the first time in the world the Vesak Pandal was artistically moulded out of cement. Pradeep Kumara created the pandal along with his friend W. Siripala who designed the murals depicting inspiring Jataka tales etched out and crafted out of cement. Pradeep, a mason, has been creative and innovative even as a child.  This Vesak, he was inspired to make a long lasting pandal out of cement and commenced the task in February.  At the end of three months of painstaking work, he had completed a 45 foot tall pandal. Over 45,000 Heroin addicts in the country – NDDCB study reveals

‘More than 45,000 people in Sri Lanka are addicted to the use of Heroin’ is a fact revealed by a recent study by the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board. According to the Assistant Director of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, Pradeep Kumara, of the total addicts, around 1000 are women, which makes a percentage of 0.5% from the total number of Heroin addict. Furthermore, the study had found that a majority of the women who use this drug are engaged in solicitation.
