Suspects in Dematagoda abduction case sentenced
A Sri Lankan court today sentenced the defendants in the case against MP Hirunika Premachandra over an abduction incident in Dematagoda after they pleaded guilty earlier this month.
MP Hirunika Premachandra and eight others were charged of abducting a youth using a Defender belonging to the MP and assaulting him in December 2015.
The Colombo High Court Judge R. Gurusinha sentenced the six suspects in the case to two years of rigorous imprisonment suspended for 11 years.
The court also ordered to pay Rs. 285,000 as compensation to the victim and fined each defendant Rs. 32,000.
The Judge strongly reprimanded one of the defendants, who was a school student and released him on a bond of Rs. 100,000.
