Kerosene subsidy has been provided to 74,843 persons – Minister

Co-Cabinet Spokesman, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says the government has provided the Kerosene subsidy to 74,843 persons. At the cabinet briefing yesterday, the Minister said 47,555 Samurdhi beneficiaries and estate sector people who do not have electricity have been provided with the kerosene subsidy. In addition, 27,288 persons engaged in fisheries activities have been given this fuel subsidy, he pointed out. The Minister said the kerosene subsidy, which will be effective from May 10th, will be paid directly to the recipients' bank accounts from 1st June. He pointed out that the current price of fuel is still lower than the prices in 2014.

All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation commends government’s decision to provide fertilizer instead of money

The All Ceylon Farmers' Federation yesterday commended the decision taken by the government to terminate the subsidy provided for the farmers to buy fertilizer in the future and return to the old way of providing required fertilizer directly to the farmers. The National Organizer of the Federation Namal Karunaratna holding a special press conference in Dambulla said the federation appreciates the government's decision to provide the fertilizer again instead of the money.
