‘Govt will secure rights of estate workers’

Minister Lakshman Kiriella says the government is committed towards securing the rights of estate workers.

Speaking at an event in Kandy Minister Kiriella said the programme to provide land for estate workers will be completed before the end of this year. 

The Minister noted a Cabinet paper was tabled claiming every family living in the estates should receive a seven perch land.

He said the relevant Cabinet paper was approved adding therefore the government initiated the programme to distribute seven perch lands to all estate workers’ families.

Minister Lakshman Kiriella stated 15,000 plots of land belonging to the Kandy District National Institute of Plantations Management will be distributed among estate workers.

Minister Kiriella said the programme will be initiated in June and concluded in December.
