President Maithripala Sirisena has said that a new cabinet would be sworn in and a new government will be formed by next Monday.
At the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MPs group meeting held yesterday after the Supreme Court verdict that the President acted illegally when he dissolved parliament, the President has said that a prime minister of the new government will be decided within the next two days, UPFA Galle District parliamentarian Nishantha Mutuhettigama said.
However, if a United National Party (UNP) government is formed, the UPFA or the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will not be ready to get the positions in a UNP government, the MP said speaking to media after the UPFA parliamentary group meeting.
After the verdict of the Supreme Court, a special meeting of the UPFA members was held at the Presidential Secretariat last night under the patronage of President. Prime Minister of his purported government Mahinda Rajapaksa and all members of the UPFA attended the meeting.
The President at the meeting has said that he would accept the verdict on the dissolution of parliament, but he will never rule again with Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The President has said that he decided to dissolve the Parliament in order to prevent the UNP program that was disastrous for the country and he will take every step to prevent the destruction of the country by UNP when it comes to power again.
The President has said that he is committed to strengthen the anti-UNP camp and asked the SLFP MPs not to propose forming a government with UNP again.
President Sirisena has said that he will make a decision on appointing a Prime Minister after receiving the Supreme Court ruling on the appeal filed by Mahinda Rajapaksa against the Court of Appeal’s interim injunction order preventing him and 49 ministers of the purported government from functioning.
The UPFA parliamentary group has decided to hold a meeting today (14) after the Supreme Court ruling.
