More than 765 kilograms of illegal drugs seized by the country’s law enforcement agencies following the completion of the judiciary process will be publicly destroyed at the Suraweera storage complex at Maguruwa, Kelaniya today.
The measure to destroy the seized drugs has been taken on the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena and the President is expected to witness the event which is also open to the media.
The stock of drugs will be destroyed by the Police Narcotics Bureau according to international standards.
The program is carried out on the instructions of the President to clear the doubts in the minds of the people as to what happens to the drugs after those were taken into custody.

Further steps have been taken to increase narcotics raids after April 03 on the instructions of the President to accelerate the program implemented to eradicate illegal drugs from the country.
