President says all graduates will be employed to get their contribution to the economy

President Gotabhaya Rajapakse says that a program will be launched to get the direct contribution of the graduates, who are expecting employment, to the economy according to their field of study.

Meeting with a group of employment-hopeful graduates at the Presidential Secretariat today, the President engaged in a friendly discussion with them and said the information has been gathered on the vacancies prevailing at State, Semi-State and Departments.

He added that recruitment of graduates for these vacancies will be expedited and the recruits will be provided with proper training on leadership and knowledge about the public service.

Addressing the gathering President Rajapaksa said that his aim is to create a public servant who is accountable to the public. He said the task is to build the economy of the country.

All those who join the public service should be given mandatory training to understand the various services needed to build that economy, he added.

“I will make opportunity for all students who pass the GCE A / L examination to receive a university education. Three or four years later, more than 200,000 graduates will come out. Not all of them can find employment in the public sector. If so there is a main flaw in our education system. They should be able to find employment not only in the private sector but also as a businessman, to start their own business and build on their own.”

Students in the world’s top universities in their final year form their own company and contribute to the society. That’s what should be done in Sri Lankan universities. Every student should receive an education to make a contribution to the future economy. One of the biggest flaws in our society is that we always underestimate ourselves. We do not take risks,” President Rajapaksa said.

State Ministers Shehan Semasinghe, Janaka Wakkumbura, Kanchana Wijesekara and Kanaka Herath were also present at the meeting.
