A eleven-month-old girl lost her life after a coconut fell on her head in Deltota, Galaha, police said. The victim, identified as Logeswaran Kiangshini, was a resident of Galaha Deltota Naranhinna estate.
Police said, the incident had occurred as the girl’s father was returning back home from a neighboring house with his child. A dried coconut nut from a coconut tree in front of their house had fallen and hit the child on the head.
The father had rushed the injured girl to the Deltota Regional Hospital and due to the seriousness of her condition, she was later transferred to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital. Later the child had succumbed to her injuries.

Investigations conducted by the police have revealed that coconut trees near the line houses where the family resides had coconuts that were not being harvested and were falling to the ground in an unsafe manner.
