A 16-year-old boy died yesterday after a sudden misfire from a muzzle-loading gun in the Ambanpola police area, the police said.
They said the victim was a resident of Kethpahuwa in the Ambanpola area.
The incident was reported to the police 119 emergency division, claiming that a person was injured from gunfire.
The victim was admitted to the Galgamuwa Hospital after the incident.
Police investigations revealed that the boy had handled the gun while at the hut in the paddy field. The parents of the boy had left for their daily routine activities in their paddy fields while leaving him alone in the hut.
The parents had returned to the hut following the sound of a gunshot and found their son lying injured near the hut.
