Over Rs. 7 million benefits paid to school children under Suraksha Insurance scheme
Sri Lanka's Ministry of Education says the Suraksha Insurance scheme implemented for 4.5 million students has provided benefits amounting to Rs. 7 million within the three months since its inception.
The insurance scheme consisting of three main areas- Health Insurance, Emergency Coverage and Special Benefits - cover all students between the ages of 5-19 in government schools, non-aided or aided private schools, Pirivena schools and international schools.
Under the insurance scheme each student will receive maximum coverage of Rs. 200,000 per year and 4.5 million children are covered island wide by the program.
