Sri Lanka lawmaker suggests death penalty for prison officers abetting drug traffickers to organize crimes from jail

Colombo District UNP parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman in a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena has requested imposing death penalty also on prison officers who are abetting the convicted drug traffickers committing various organized crimes from jail.

MP Rahman in his letter has pointed out that some prison officers are indirectly assisting the underworld by colluding with the convicted death row felons.

The MP said that the majority of the convicted drug traffickers are in jails for committing crimes due to poverty but the many VIP drug traffickers conducting large scale drug rackets live luxuriously with the assistance of certain politicians.
